‘Compositional Automata’ is a Curated Place commission supported by Arts Council England that combines research and development, live performance and festival platforms to complete the next step in the ever-evolving project. Collaborating with seminal electronica group Plaid, Felix has developed a new dual functional machine that can be programmed by new composers and shown at festivals and exhibitions as a stand-alone light and sound sculpture.
In 2009, Plaid worked with Felix to create an original show with music written specifically for the machines. Since then, the collaboration has grown alongside his own solo development of the machines, helping guide the physical configuration towards a more immersive live show experience.
The Plaid and Felix’s Machines show brings together a unique mixture of natural amplification and audio processing synchronised with hypnotic patterns of light and movement.
